Successful candidates are qualified to act as the responsible person for pool plant management and maintenance within a wet leisure facility.

The qualification is valid for five years, longer than many comparable awards, and renewal or conversion options may be available depending on prior experience or existing certifications.

The Pool Plant Operator Course, Ireland is the highest level of training available for those who are responsible for the management and maintenance of swimming pools, spas and interactive water features.

- Meets CIMSPA’s employer-led pool plant operative professional standard and the essential knowledge and skills that are needed to meet the requirements of the sectors minimum deployment standard.
- Will give you comprehensive knowledge on the maintenance and management of swimming pools, spas and interactive water features.
- It qualifies you as the responsible person for pool plant management and maintenance at your wet leisure site.
- You’ll need to make sure you’ve met the following requirements before you attend your course: Be at least 16 years of age.
Qualification Duration
- It lasts for 5 years, 2 years longer than similar qualifications.
Renewal
- If it’s coming up to the expiry of your qualification and you want to renew it, or you wish to convert a qualification from another awarding body, you may be eligible to do a shorter course.
- Existing qualifications can be used as recognised prior learning (RPL) to reduce the number of hours on a course, however the assessment remains the same as a full course.
- Revalidation courses can be ran over 1-2 days (dependant on knowledge, experience and occupational competence of the learners).

What is the STA Pool Plant Operator Qualification?
This qualification prepares you to operate, maintain, and manage the pool plant room systems safely and efficiently, including pumps, filtration, chemical dosing, and control systems.
Is this qualification recognised?
Yes. It is regulated by STA and recognised by aquatics operators as a core competency for plant room responsibility.
What skills will I learn?
You will learn how to interpret plant room schematics, monitor system performance, conduct routine maintenance, identify faults, and implement corrective actions.
Do you offer a conversion course, if I have a certificate with another awarding organisation?
Yes, if you have certification from another organisation, please get in touch and we can talk you through a one day conversion course. Once you sit the conversion course you will then have an STA Pool Plant Operators Qualification for 5 years.
